First airmail issue, signed

The United Nations Postal Administration issued its first airmail stamps on 14 December 1951, two months after the first regular series. These four covers carry that set, each cancelled first day in New York.

The names printed on the covers identify the signatures: Albert Goldman, Postmaster of New York; Bertil A. Renborg, Chief of the United Nations Postal Administration; Jesse G. Johnson, President of the American Air Mail Society; and Bernard Davis, Director of the National Philatelic Museum.

The cachet shows clasped hands inside a circle lettered in the five official languages then used by the Organization.
